Photo Shoot for James Tealy

I did a photo shoot for Singer/Songwriter, and my good friend, James Tealy last Friday in Orlando. We had a great time searching for interesting places to shoot and got some really great frames. For most of the shots I used a single SB800 in a 28” Westcott Apollo softbox. That softbox is awesome! Here are some of my favorites. Be sure to click on a picture to view it larger.

Cheryl & Lester

I had a wonderful time at Cheryl and Lester’s wedding on Saturday. Their story is so great! It was a beautiful wedding at Morrison Methodist Church in Leesburg and the reception was at the Savannah Center in The Villages. I haven’t had much time to go through images, but I thought I’d show you my favorite from the evening. I knew it would be my favorite as soon as I pressed the shutter. You can click the photo to view it larger.

Photo Class at the Library

I had a really good time today with a great bunch of kids at the Villages Public Library. We talked about gear, looked at pictures, and then even gave away a little digital camera. Maybe one of these young ones will become a great photographer one day!

Other News:

1. I’m shooting a wedding on Saturday in Leesburg and the reception will be at the Savannah Center in The Villages.

2. I have three meetings with potential brides coming up this next week.

3. Pablo & Katjia’s GrapiStudio album shipped today so I should see it next week sometime. I’ll do a review of the book and their services shortly after.

4. Ben Rogers and I have started getting together every week or so to take some Strobist type pictures. I’ll post some over at Flickr.

Old Posts and Zack Arias

Welcome to the new blog! Hopefully this page is working well for everyone, no matter what browser you are on. Of course, you should NOT be using Internet Explorer... EVER... for ANYTHING!!!! So if you are, don’t tell anyone about it, and download either Firefox or Safari by clicking one of the icons in the header above.

If you are a long-time reader, or just want to read old posts (May 2008-June 12, 2009), you can view them over at www.brianwilliamsphoto.blogspot.com.

Now for something related to photography... why don’t we start the new week off with a little photographic inspiration!

Zack Arias is an incredible photographer in Atlanta and has a wonderful story about his journey into professional photography. Check out his website at www.usedfilm.com and if you are wanting to become a better photographer, make sure you read about his One Light Workshop. Zack has a teacher’s heart and I know you will appreciate his openness and how freely he passes on information about his work. Also, make sure you add him as a contact on Flickr. He often posts pictures where you can see the difference between available light and lit pics.

New Name, New Look, New Blog

I've been working on a new brand for the business. One of the things that had been bothering me was the name BDW Photography. I am always having to tell people, "B as in Brian, D as in David..." So I have changed the business' name to Brian Williams Photography. Also, the domain name has been changed to www.brianwilliamsphoto.com. You can email me at info@brianwilliamsphoto.com.

With the new name, comes a new logo and look to the website, blog, Twitter, and Facebook page. If you haven't already, follow me over at Twitter and become a fan of my Facebook page. Thanks!

Your comments about all the "newness" are welcome here at this post. Of course, if you hate it, it's probably too bad because I doubt I'll be spending anymore time on this!

New pics coming soon!

Cool Composition at the Beach

This is my little cousin, Mackenzie at the beach last year. I found it this morning when looking through some old pictures. I always liked the composition of this shot especially the leading lines which take your eye to the blown out ocean and sky at the end of the boardwalk. Also, Mackenzie's placement in the frame is perfect.

When you are trying to become a better photographer, sometimes you get to thinking about f-stops, shutter speeds, whether or not to use flash, etc. and forget that one of the most important things in making an interesting photo, is the composition. Get out today and take a picture. Then make it a better picture by adjusting your composition. If you'd like, you can post links to your shots in the comments section of this post.
