Some of my good friends are in a blue grass band called the Sonset Band. They needed some pictures for their new website and some promo stuff so Sunday we did some pictures for them after their rehearsal. There are 8 members in the band so the biggest challenge was going to be lighting them all evenly. I found a great spot by the lake where the "sunset" would be behind them and started setting up.
Their lead singer is the only girl in the group so I put up a beauty dish to light her, then used a 50" umbrella to camera left to light some of the guys and a 28" softbox on the other side for the rest of the group. When I was finished with the group, I took some pictures of Traci. Here's a setup picture courtesy of Ben Rogers.

Family Portraits @ The Beach
This past weekend we went to the beach for Labor Day weekend and took the opportunity to make a good family portrait. I took a huge 50" Apollo Softbox out there with me and set the camera on a Bogen tripod. I shot this at 24mm to include as much as the beach and ocean as I could. I was using high speed sync to get the aperture I wanted and to combat the setting sun that was directly in front of the camera. We ended up at 1/3200 at f/2.8 and ISO 200.
Here's a diagram of the setup:
